Following a design competition, Taunton Deane Borough Council has now appointed St. Modwen as its preferred development partner for the 270 million pound Firepool scheme. NEW Masterplanning prepared the masterplan and coordinated the design submission from St Modwen for this significant regeneration site in Taunton town centre.

The 16.6 acre site is designated as a strategic employment site and is set to provide more than 500,000 sq ft of office space, together with 400 homes, a hotel, supermarket, retail and leisure units and major public realm improvements (see our projects page for more details).

NEW Masterplanning will be working with St. Modwen and Project Taunton in the coming weeks to prepare more detailed design codes and the planning application for the first phase, which is due to be submitted during the autumn 2009.

Geraint and Andy of NEW Masterplanning led the RTPI award-winning Taunton Vision Urban Design Framework (UDF) which was completed in 2004. Project Taunton was set up to implement the key development opportunities identified in the UDF, including the redevelopment of Firepool (the former cattle market) as a mixed-use, office-led, extension to the town centre. Other schemes for the UDF which are now being progressed include the improvement of the County Cricket Ground, major retail growth and new transport infrastructure.
