Truro is a designated growth area for Cornwall, needing to deliver an additional 6,000 dwellings in a sensitive landscape setting and historic city centre. NEW Masterplanning are coordinating the input from landscape, economic, transport and environmental specialists and preparing a masterplan to deliver residential, employment and retail growth. Regular workshops have been undertaken with local residents and with a specially convened 'stakeholder group' which has informed the development of the masterplan.

The proposals provide for significant retail growth in the city centre, creating new retail space and reinforcing the important role of specialist businesses. Redevelopment will enhance the setting of the cathedral and integrate the city centre with the waterfront. Housing and employment growth is a vital part of strengthening Truro's important civic and cultural role in Cornwall.

West of the city centre, expansion of Truro College and Royal Cornwall Hospital provides a focus for growth of the 'knowledge economy', and the creation of a 'medi-park'. New housing, a district centre and park & ride proposal will create a sustainable mixed-use community.

Our role has involved working with the County Council on the alignment and detailed design of a new 'Local Distributor Road' which will create capacity for bus priority measures on the A390 and give strategic access to the city centre for new and existing residents.
