Rivers Edge Wimborne, Dorset
Reconnecting town, river and landscape through a carefully integrated new neighbourhood.

NEW masterplanning prepared the masterplan and detailed planning application for River’s Edge, a new neighbourhood on the edge of Wimborne.
The proposals deliver 198 new homes in a balanced mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses alongside apartments, including much-needed affordable housing. A mixed-use riverside frontage introduces employment space, a café and a new public riverside environment, creating an active and welcoming edge to the town.
The masterplan establishes River’s Edge as a new gateway to Wimborne, responding carefully to its setting. A more formal character and architectural language is adopted closer to the town centre, transitioning to a softer, rural edge along Cowgrove Lane. This graduated approach ensures the development sits comfortably between town and countryside.

Access to green infrastructure is central to the scheme. A continuous riverside walking route is provided, alongside strong pedestrian and cycle connections to Wimborne town centre, local facilities and a dedicated Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANGS), with links onward to the wider countryside.
The masterplan respects key landscape views and heritage assets, including a central tree-lined avenue aligned to views of Wimborne Minster and a new landscaped approach to Julian’s Bridge. Wider benefits include the relocation of allotments, the provision of a new football stadium for Wimborne, and safeguarded land for potential future hospital expansion.
