Birmingham City Centre

Birmingham was one of the first cities to take a strategic ‘framework’ approach to masterplanning city centre regeneration and to focus on creating vibrant mixed-use quarters.

As urban design team leader, Andy Ward was responsible for the urban design frameworks and ‘quarter planning’ for Convention Centre / Brindleyplace, Jewellery Quarter and the Bull Ring / Digbeth Millennium Quarter.

This involved preparing visions building on the unique qualities of each place. A clear network of streets and spaces with clear urban design principles provides the framework for vibrant mixed-use, high quality public realm and iconic architecture. Andy provided strategic direction and clear communication to coordinate city scale regeneration proposals.
