NEW Masterplanning were appointed by Tuckerwood Developments Ltd in a team led by GVA Bilfinger to prepare an outline planning application for residential development at Woodborough Farm, Winscombe in North Somerset.

NEWMasterplanning worked closely with local stakeholders and the technical team to create a new neighbourhood for Winscombe that delivers a wider choice of house sizes and types, including much needed affordable homes, all within walking distance of the village centre. The proposals for the 8 hectare site were developed in consultation with the parish council and were presented through a public exhibition event prepared byNEWMasterplanning earlier in the year.

The masterplan formed the basis of a planning application submitted to North Somerset Council proposing development of up to 175 new dwellings, significant areas of public open space and improved pedestrian and cycle connections to the village and nearby strategic cycle routes.

A key aspect of the masterplan process included the preparation of a comprehensive ecology strategy that safeguarded protected species, including Bats and Dormice. Working closely with Clarkson Woods Ecology, Natural England and North Somerset District Council, the masterplan proposed a connected network of ecological movement corridors alongside designated areas to encourage greater wildlife activity on site.
